India’s lowest point in Cricket History

For a few months now, I have had the urge to begin my posts, and have finally fought my laziness. So here goes…

Last week in cricket was undoubtedly one of the saddest for the millions of India’s cricket fanatics, me included. But this result was no surprise for me, nor should it have been for those who watched the misery that Ajantha Mendis subjected the Indian batsmen to in the finals of the Asia Cup. I recall a conversation with a friend after the finals, and telling him that the result of the test series was obvious; that it was to be a 3-0 whitewash. He, however, was a lot more optimistic and had full ‘faith’ in the awesome foursome of India’s batting.

I will not get into blame games, who got out to bad shot selection, who did not show commitment and concentration, why the bowlers were so ineffective, blah blah….

My prediction for the series stays as it was 3 weeks ago: it will be a 3-0 whitewash (unless rain comes to India’s rescue, of course).

The high point in cricket for me was a news article in the Economic Times that the proposed ‘T20 Champions League’ may not happen. This news is still unconfirmed, but I will pray, for cricket’s sake, that the so called ‘Champions League’ never happens.

Why? Because it’s high time someone stood up to the BCCI and told Sharad Pawar, Lalit Modi (I’ve just read that he was convicted of possessing drugs, kidnapping and assault in the US during his days as a university student) and their team of looters that they are mere administrators, and not rulers of the lovely game. Cricket cannot bow down to their whims and fancies, and these rogues should not be allowed to become bigger than the sport itself.

I am indeed shocked to see the lack of conviction from any other cricket board around the world to stand up for their rights and the rights of their members, and timidly succumbing to money power.

It is beyond my understanding how the board can disallow cricketers from playing for some English counties, on the grounds that they have ICL players on their rolls! Isn’t it BCCI’s role to facilitate and develop Indian cricket and cricketers? Will this be achieved through such dirty politics?

What will be achieved through the Pawar politics is more of the disgraceful performances that we saw on the SSC, more of 0-3 whitewashes, more humiliation! The signs are not good…. Unless……
